We’re living in surreal times as a pandemic washes over the entire world and scientists desperately try to figure out how to contain it. While they do, many of us are quarantined at home, avoiding other people like – pun intended – the plague. So how does one stay sane during quarantine? Three letters, people: C. B. and D.
CBD – short for cannabidiol – contains no psychoactive elements like its sister THC does. Instead, people have said it has helped them reduce anxiety and insomnia. Indeed, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) claims that CBD is proven to lower stress in other animals like rats. Subjects in controlled studies were seen to exhibit fewer behavioral signs of anxiety and their physiological symptoms – such as increased heart rate – improved.
So if you’re home alone right now wondering how to pay rent while watching the news, your stress levels are probably through the roof. First, you might want to reduce the amount of news you’re watching to reduce the anxiety that goes along with it. You’ll also want to establish a routine; staying in bed and getting up late isn’t the way to go. Get up at your normal non-quarantine time. Shower. Get dressed. Ideally, create a schedule that allows you to do the things you have to do (chores, work, etc) and the things you like to do. Believe it or not, this approach is a real treatment for depression and also the prevention of depression known as behavioral activation. It’s very important to care for yourself during quarantine because if you don’t, who will?
Another great way to stay sane is to establish a work-out regimen – even if it’s as simple as yoga. CBD is the perfect compliment to restorative-style or gentle yoga work, but it’s even effective with vinyasa, too. Basically, CBD helps you zen out and turn off any overthinking (even if you’re not performing yoga). It can also help with any sore joints and muscles you may have.
When evening approaches, you might want to entertain yourself with a cocktail or two – but enhancing them with CBD may also help. That’s because alcohol is a depressant but by adding CBD, your body may maintain a relaxed mood. Basically, the CBD may mellow out the effects of alcohol (and/or caffeine). How about a Mint Julep with CBD? Or a Cosmopolitan? Or Sangria? The list is endless and there’s a fit for every taste.
Now is a great time to stock up on CBD, too. According to a report from the Brightfield Group, since the COVID-19 outbreak began, 48% of users have stocked up or plan to stock up on CBD and 39% of consumers plan to use CBD more frequently. What’s your plan? Stay home with a little CBD to take the edge off.
